Used Book Recycling Campaign 2024

World Vision Hong Kong is going to hold the Used Book Recycling Campaign from July 12 to 22, 2024 at Citywalk 2 in Tsuen Wan. Funds raised will be used for local programmes to support grass-roots children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and their families in Hong Kong by creating an environment that enables SEN children to learn and thrive, promoting social inclusion.

Your participation, whether it is donating books, purchasing books, volunteering for the event, or making a donation, can help make a difference for SEN children and their families!

Let the SEN Be Heard

SEN children face a lot of challenges growing up, and their families are often under tremendous stress caring for them. It would be a huge support for them if people could hear their voices and understand their needs.

Below are some sharing from parents with SEN children:

Taking SEN children to the cinema is truly not easy. We are grateful to World Vision for organising this movie event, so we don't have to worry about our kids being complained for being noisy!

A mother who attended World Vision's special movie screening

My son used to lose control of his emotions when he was bullied at school before. Thank God he has now transferred to another school. As a parent, I am really grateful that he is properly cared for, taught and accepted by his teachers.

Mrs. Chin

They learn at a slower pace. It takes them 10 or even 50 times to learn what we can learn right away. To focus on taking care of my son, I quitted my job, and later suffered from depression due to immense pressure.

Mrs. Yuen

Use of Funds

Funds raised from this event will be used for World Vision's local programmes to support grass-roots SEN children and their families in various ways:

  • Provide professional one-on-one play therapy to SEN children to improve their emotional and behavioural issues
  • Provide individual and group counselling for parents to enhance parent-child relationships
  • Train parents to become certified art instructors so that they can maintain livelihoods while caring for children and contribute to the community
  • Organise talks and workshops to help people understand the needs of SEN children from the perspectives of parents and caregivers
  • Organise a Community Inclusion Fest to let the public learn about the talents of SEN children and promote a culture of equality and inclusion

(Excess funds raised will go to other local programmes of World Vision Hong Kong to help more children in need.)

  • All unsold books will be gathered for recycling after the charity sale.

Become a Volunteer / Donate to Support
